Anternate Ending?

Post by josh » Wed Oct 11, 2006 9:33 am

Has it ever crossed anyones mind that there was an alternate ending to the pilot episode? One that would have not led into the series? I am wondering if there was an ending whe SH possibly got killed doing the 360 loop. The reason I am asking is because I was watching bits and pieces of the pilot and the end seems kind of strange. In the end the commander comments not to call the "bike rider" Street Hawk, becuase it might turn him into somekind of folk hero. Also why isn't Jessie at the press conference? He also says during the speech "thats the lasr we'll ever see of Street Hawk!" I just makes me wonder if they somehow changed the ending after they found out it would become a series.

I doubt there was an alternate ending. I was probably left open ended in case the pilot did not fly. If the pilot got picked up, SH shows up again. If not, that's the last you will see of SH.

Nah, I really don't see any evidence that the pilot could have had an alternate ending along those lines. First, Altobelli probably could care less if a dead motorcycle driver becomes a "folk hero". I think it was kind of a Robin Hood reference; Altobelli doesn't want people to have a name to go with the vigilante on a motorcycle so that they can turn him into a good guy. Second, Jesse flakes on a lot of his duties during the first episode, so him being missing at the press conference isn't a big shocker (remember Jayne Modean's press conference when she refers to her partner having the paperwork, then she turns to look at the nerd who just shrugs his shoulders because Jesse isn't there.) Finally, Altobelli's comment of "That's the last we'll ever see of Street Hawk!" was intended to be double-irony; irony that the commander had just told Rachel not to use the name Street Hawk in the press conference and also irony that the TV show had just begun, thus there would be a whole lot more Street Hawk to come (although not quite enough in my books).

At the end I think it was something Altobelli said in anger after all a police press conference with the only questions about streethawk,I think it really got him going, but as for the end I thought it was brilliant the way he says it,the way the bike leaps from Command Centre as he is saying it is something that really showed us that Streethawk is top secret in every way,not wanting to be seen, not wanting to be heard and the way it cuts to the tangerine dream music to me is well, perfection!

Yup, I'd agree. I just can't see there being an alternate ending. That just wasn't done back then, it's only become popular in the last 5-10 years with dvd technology and the interest in, not to mention the extra revenue, which comes of releasing alternate directors cuts and deleted scenes.
Altobelli's speech I took to be out of sheer frustration. He wanted to quash any more talk of this vigilante but the Press wouldn't let go of it. They were like a dog with a bone. He blurted out his name by mistake. The "that's the last..." line was just him being hopeful and of course he was totally wrong ...
